Birds on the Open Moor in the Parish of Belstone

Dormice in Skaigh Valley
In August two of the boxes for the dormouse survey in Skaigh Valley were found to have dormice in. One of these has a mother and family of four young. If you would like to find out anything more about this monitoring programme please contact Robin at: edwinarobinhill@btinternet.com

Frogspawn in Belstone (2012)
On Friday 27th January 2012 frogspawn was found in a garden pond in Belstone. Is this the earliest ever for Belstone?
Welcome to the Cuckoo! (2011)
In 2011 the cuckoo was first heard in Belstone on 10th April. The earliest date by three days that Chris Walpole has heard it, in 30 years of his records. The late Mark Blacksell, however, did see one one in Taw Marsh on 28th March 1998.
